WebmasterRadio.FM has grown its programming line-up significantly this year. In 2009, WebmasterRadio.FM has added eight new shows to the schedule and re-introduced two others. Today, we are able to announce the addition of two new shows, both of which are currently in pre-production.

The first will be hosted by Shawna Fennell, founder of 1 Choice 4 Your Store address E-commerce, online store development and merchant marketing. Shawna is an experienced radio host who’s Yahoo! Store Power Hour was a highly rated show at another online radio network. We are very pleased to welcome her to the WebmasterRadio.FM family.

Shawna’s new show will air shortly after Labor Day. Just so you know, we’re looking for suggestions to name the show. Forward your ideas to jimhedger @ webmasterradio.fm and, if the name you suggest is chosen, we’ll make sure you get some cool tech shwag.

Also debuting in September will be a show dedicated to a behind the scenes look at the madness we call our industry. SEOGossip with Scott Polk and Shannon Poole will take a totally unidentifying snapshot of weird, funny, interesting things, people and events in the search marketing world. Anyone who attends conferences knows Scott and Shannon. Witty, irreverent, brilliant and enormously fun, our dynamic duo will strive to show the human face of one of the most interesting industries in the world.

Both shows will air in early to mid-September. Welcome Shawna, Scott and Shannon!

Five days from today several thousand search professionals ranging from SEOs to PPC experts to search engine developers will descend on the San Jose Convention Center for the largest annual search related event in the world, Search Engine Strategies San Jose. Running five days from August 10 – 14, SES San Jose is a full week of intense skills sharing, networking, evening events and eventually, physical and mental exhaustion. SES veterans eagerly await this show.

WebmasterRadio.FM will be bringing our audience full coverage of SES San Jose. We will be live-casting each keynote address, interviewing a few dozen speakers and industry luminaries, covering any and all breaking news that occurs or is announced at the event, and throwing one of our largest SearchBash parties.

As usual, we are inviting everyone attending SES San Jose to drop by our booth to meet some of our show hosts and radio personalities. You’ll be able to find WebmasterRadio.FM’s booth in the right-hand side corner of the trade-show floor, near the area set aside for lunch. Our booth number is #703, our staff is friendly and our sofas are going to be filled with live interview action virtually from start to finish.

As I wrote earlier, if you are (for whatever reason) unable to get up in time for the keynote speeches, tune in to WebmasterRadio.FM while waking. We’re live-casting all keynotes. Also, stay tuned as we will be breaking into our live-stream for special announcements, breaking news and general fun from the trade-show floor.

Tuesday night, WebmasterRadio.FM is throwing the largest party of the event, SearchBash at Pearl Nightclub (2 blocks away from the Convention Center at 8 S. First St, San Jose, CA. 95113). Because Google is NOT hosting a Google Dance this year, we expect a very heavy turnout and will not be able to allow anyone past the door who has not first RSVP’ed. Please let us know you’re coming by following THIS LINK to RSVP for SearchBash.

We are all looking forward to the coming week and hope to see you at Search Engine Strategies San Jose. Stay tuned to the network friends, we have some amazing content coming up… :)

Bing – Yahoo Deal Coverage on WebmasterRadio.FM

It has been an intense two days for the staff and show hosts at WebmasterRadio.FM. Somewhere around 6pm Eastern we learned that the MSFT/YHOO rumors we had been hearing all afternoon were in fact true and that a major announcement was to be issued early Thursday morning. A leisurely summer’s afternoon had suddenly turned into a frantic 36-hours of news gathering, phone calls and show planning.

Here is a run-down of WebmasterRadio.FM shows and posts covering the Bing – Yahoo Search deal.

We worked quickly to get a special presentation together and by 9pm, we went live-to-air with a Bing/Yahoo analysis panel made up of Sarah Lacy from BusinessWeek & TechCrunch, Disa Johnson and Jim Hedger, which was moderated by Daron Babin. –> “Microsoft-Yahoo Search Deal Imminent

Thursday morning, Yahoo and Microsoft CEOs Carol Bartz and Steve Ballmer held a joint press conference at 5:45am Pacific announcing the details of the Microsoft Bing / Yahoo Search deal. After hearing the details, I wrote a blog post, “The Benefits of BingYa!” as a short examination of who in our industry most benefits from the deal.

Thursday afternoon, WebmasterRadio.FM shows Webcology and Office Hours with Vanessa Fox covered the deal.

Webcology (2PM): “The Benefits of BingYa!-The Microsoft Yahoo Search Deal

Office Hours with Vanessa Fox (3PM): “Yahoo Microsoft Deal Effect on Owners, Developers and SEOs

To cap our coverage of the Bing – Yahoo thing, the original pioneer of search coverage, Danny Sullivan and Marshall Sponder from the New York Times dedicated nearly 90-minutes to a special edition of Danny’s popular Searchcast on WebmasterRadio.FM –> “Understanding the Microsoft Bing and Yahoo Search Deal

That’s a lot of coverage in what amounts to a 36-hour period. Special thanks to everyone involved. We will continue following this story as it develops.

Bing+Yahoo=?: Decoding the Deal of the Decade, A Special SearchCast with Danny Sullivan

July 30, 2009 by Jim Hedger

Danny Sullivan joins New York Times SEO Expert Marshall Simmonds on a special SearchCast tonight at 7PM Eastern (4PM Pacific) on WebmasterRadio.FM to discuss the Microsoft Bing – Yahoo Search agreement.

Dominated by Google for most of this decade, search advertising is a multi-billion dollar a year business. Google has commanded such an overwhelming share of the search advertising market for so long, Yahoo, Microsoft and others have been unable to present any credible competition and a sense of stagnation in the search marketplace set in.

Microsoft has been trying to strike a deal with a very reluctant Yahoo for over a year. Its attempts to acquire all or part of Yahoo was one of the defining events in tech in 2008. Yesterday’s announcement from Yahoo and Microsoft is the start of what will unarguably become one of the greatest shifts in the history of search.

To better understand the impact of yesterday’s announcement, Join Danny Sullivan and Marshall Simmonds live at 7PM eastern this evening (July 30) on WebmasterRadio.FM for a special episode of SearchCast.

Nielsen Researcher Explores the Rise of “Power Moms” and Their Online Presence as Guest on Purse Strings – 3pm Eastern

July 21, 2009 by Jim Hedger

Jessica Hogue, research director for The Nielsen Company is Maria’s guest on Purse Strings at 3pm today.

Ms. Hogue will discuss a recent key consumer segment analysis she spearheaded, which focuses on the “Power Moms” market. Power Moms are women between the ages of 25 and 54, with at least one child, who regularly participate in online activities. Ms. Hogue will explain how these Power Moms are using the Web to communicate and what they’re saying.

The report is based on a blend of blog posts, comments and Web links developed through ongoing monitoring of more than 10,000 mom and parenting blogs.

According to a recent Nielsen Power Moms report, moms identified as “Established Moms,” aged 40-50 with three or more children at home, are heavy online shoppers. Moms labeled as “Newbie Moms,” aged 25-34 with one or two children at home, also enjoy online shopping, but social networking sites play a much more prominent role.

“The insight this report brings is helpful to any company seeking to learn how to engage Moms online in ways that really resonate with them,” said Maria Reitan show host and Sr. Principal at Carmichael Lynch Spong. “Companies must understand where these women are, what they are doing and what messages will break through the online clutter.”

Jessica Hogue oversees integrated Nielsen online research and analytics for the company’s consumer packaged goods (CPG) practice. In this role, she manages research projects to study consumer perceptions of multiple brands and consumer categories, and leads Nielsen’s online health, wellness and sustainability trend research.

The episode airs at 3PM eastern, Tuesday July 21 and will be available on-demand in the Purse Strings Archive at WebmasterRadio.FM or via distributors such as iTunes and Mobilecast.
