Affiliate Convention Videos
March 20, 2009 by Jim Hedger

Two videos recently added to the Affiliate Convention website suggest a grass-roots revolution is taking place in the affiliate marketing space. The first video, produced by professional convention organizer Mark Lesnick outlines the programming directions of the newest conference he is involved with.
The Affiliate Convention (which is being presented in part by WebmasterRadio.FM) will be designed and programmed with affiliate marketers in mind. The show, which is free for working affiliate marketers to attend, takes place in Denver Colorado from June 17 – 20 and is the first of a series of conferences for affiliate marketers and affiliate managers.
“Some conferences cost over $1700 to attend,†says Lesnick early in the video, “As a fundamental difference, we believe that affiliates should not have to pay an entrance fee to attend the eventâ€.
The show is being held in Denver in order to keep costs as low as possible for working affiliate marketers. Denver is the most central major city in the United States and is a hub airport for several national airlines. It also has lower hotel and accommodation costs than many other comparable cities.
“Think of Affiliate Convention as your home,†Lesnick continues, “it’s your place to negotiate for better revenue percentages; it’s also your soapbox, your place to state your issues. We want you to participate in Affiliate Convention as you will gain more for the industry and for your business.â€
One of the goals of Affiliate Convention is to give affiliate marketers and affiliate managers a greater say in the way their industry works. The focus on the grass-roots of the industry reflects organizers’ appreciation of the hard work and planning that goes into a successful affiliate marketing business.
Mark concludes his video with a cheery, “We look forward to seeing you at Affiliate Convention, welcome homeâ€. More on the second video, targeted at Affiliate managers on Monday.
Major Undertaking – Minor Disruptions

Just a quick note to let you all know what’s been happening here over the past few days. In last Friday’s post, “Newly Improved :: WebmasterRadio.FM”, I wrote about changes happening at the website and in our show line up.
The alterations have been made and the new website is complete but we are still working out a few minor bugs involving DNS issues. Today, I just want to write about solving some of the disruptions the move has caused.
As of now, we have all active shows uploaded and updated until the beginning of 2009. We’re slowly adding archived files for previous years however it will take a while to fully repopulate the accessable archives. Some of the podcasts have had to be renamed. For the most part, you should not experience any difficulties with your RSS feeds or downloads. If you do, please go to our new site and redownload the file or re-subscribe to the feed. (Again, that should not be necessary)
Please accept our apologies for any inconveniences our transfer has caused you. The platform we’re using now provides us with a lot more versatility and the ability to communicate using a wider array of tools. In a very short time, we’ll be running more smoothly.

2009 has been an interesting and expansive year for WebmasterRadio.FM/. As regular visitors and listeners have noticed, the website looks and acts differently today than it did last week. We’ve made a number of changes in the past eight weeks. As one can imagine, making changes in a network as large as WebmasterRadio.FM is a complex and difficult undertaking.
We are proud of WebmasterRadio.FM’s accomplishments and each of the shows running on the network. WebmasterRadio.FM is among the largest online radio and podcast networks in the world. With over 15,000 historic files in our archives and nearly 25 hours of fresh content added each week, WebmasterRadio.FM is the voice of the online advertising and B2B industries. This year we want to push further.

“It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me,
You’re quoting the wrong song…” (all apologies to Sean MacGowan, Jem Finer and Pogues fans everywhere)
It wasn’t Christmas Eve though the streets of Chicago were cold enough to pass for late December. We were not in the drunk tank though listeners might have thought so had they tuned in to the Drunken Webmasters’ RoundTable broadcast live last Tuesday night. There was an old man speaking to me but that might have been any number of characters ranging from Daron Babin to Todd Friesen to Dave Naylor to Doug Heil. At some points in the evening it was hard to tell.
WebmasterRadio.FM rocked its way through the final major digital marketing conference of the year last week in our virtually complete coverage of all major events at Search Engine Strategies Chicago 2008. As the official radio and podcast network of the Search Engine Strategies Conference series, there’s a lot expected of us. We carried every keynote speech, all the Orion panel sessions, a number of individual sessions and recorded over twenty interviews with industry thought-leaders throughout three days of intensely hard work. Our goal at conferences is to act as ears for the tens of thousands of people in our industry who can’t attend themselves.
Here are some of the highlights from Search Engine Strategies Chicago 2008:
- Professor Lawrence Lessig Keynote: Remix, Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy
- Orion Panel: The State of Integration of Search
- Author Bill Tancer Keynote: We Are What We Click
- Orion Panel: The Battle of the Browsers
- Chris Winfield Interview – Igniting Viral Campaigns
- Cody Hunter Interview – Paid Search Marketing for Small Business
- The Drunken Webmasters’ RoundTable (3hours of fun and enlightenment, WebmasterRadio.FM style)
- Josh James Keynote: Avoiding Anticipointment
- John Mellor Interview – Investing in Analytics
- Tessa Fraser Interview – Rethinking Optimization
As I said, we worked hard last week. We compiled some great conversations, attended every social event and created a lot of fun of our own. There are more files where those came from waiting to be edited and archived in the Search Engine Strategies Conference channel at WebmasterRadio.FM.
Now we get to take some much needed rest time. We’re still broadcasting, podcasting and gathering great information but for the next few weeks we get to do it from our homebase in Fort Lauderdale. The crew doesn’t have to travel until the New Year and our first conference of next year is the Social Networking Conference just down the street in Miami in late January.

Jim Hedger joins WebmasterRadio.FM

“Hey, that’s me”, said Hedger glancing at the headline.
I made the announcement a few hours ago on Webcology. Here it is again, just to make it extra official.
“Jim Hedger has accepted a position with WebmasterRadio.FM”.
I have joined the crew here at WebmasterRadio.FM as a full time employee. I am not sure exactly what Daron and Brandy will choose as my title but would like to remind Daron that though I do have the hair of Les Nesman, I also have the style of Andy Travis. (just wanted to be sure that was noted)
For the time being, I will be blogging from afar. This month, WebmasterRadio.FM’s road crew will be at three major conferences in four short weeks. The window for making the actual move doesn’t open until mid-December.
I am excited, honored, grateful and full of anticipation, all at the same time. As soon as my VISA application is complete and granted, I will move to the studio in Florida where I understand a cot has been placed under the mixing board for me to sleep on.
One of the most exciting aspects of the move is the opportuntiy to hang out with the growing search marketing community in S.Florida. There’s a number of folks down there who I consider true friends and I can’t wait until they are truly neighbors.
