WebmasterRadio.FM Heading to San Jose

Five days from today several thousand search professionals ranging from SEOs to PPC experts to search engine developers will descend on the San Jose Convention Center for the largest annual search related event in the world, Search Engine Strategies San Jose. Running five days from August 10 – 14, SES San Jose is a full week of intense skills sharing, networking, evening events and eventually, physical and mental exhaustion. SES veterans eagerly await this show.

WebmasterRadio.FM will be bringing our audience full coverage of SES San Jose. We will be live-casting each keynote address, interviewing a few dozen speakers and industry luminaries, covering any and all breaking news that occurs or is announced at the event, and throwing one of our largest SearchBash parties.

As usual, we are inviting everyone attending SES San Jose to drop by our booth to meet some of our show hosts and radio personalities. You’ll be able to find WebmasterRadio.FM’s booth in the right-hand side corner of the trade-show floor, near the area set aside for lunch. Our booth number is #703, our staff is friendly and our sofas are going to be filled with live interview action virtually from start to finish.

As I wrote earlier, if you are (for whatever reason) unable to get up in time for the keynote speeches, tune in to WebmasterRadio.FM while waking. We’re live-casting all keynotes. Also, stay tuned as we will be breaking into our live-stream for special announcements, breaking news and general fun from the trade-show floor.

Tuesday night, WebmasterRadio.FM is throwing the largest party of the event, SearchBash at Pearl Nightclub (2 blocks away from the Convention Center at 8 S. First St, San Jose, CA. 95113). Because Google is NOT hosting a Google Dance this year, we expect a very heavy turnout and will not be able to allow anyone past the door who has not first RSVP’ed. Please let us know you’re coming by following THIS LINK to RSVP for SearchBash.

We are all looking forward to the coming week and hope to see you at Search Engine Strategies San Jose. Stay tuned to the network friends, we have some amazing content coming up… :)

No GoogleDance at SES San Jose 2009 – SearchBash Stepping Up

Google has said it will not to throw a Google Dance event at the upcoming 2009 Search Engine Strategies Conference in San Jose California. The decision was made in reaction to the recession during a year which saw Google make the first round of layoffs in its corporate history. Hosting a party estimated to cost $1.5million could be seen as sending the wrong message in a declining economy. Google, which is still among the largest sponsors of SES San Jose, is expected to use the four-day conference to heavily promote its YouTube video platform.

It is going to be a strange experience being at SES San Jose without making the annual pilgrimage to the Googleplex. Google Dances were always larger-than-life events. Held at their enormous headquarters in Mountain View, the Google Dance was seen as one of the MUST DO networking events, attracting thousands of people each year. It was also one of the few remaining non-exclusive events open to all SES attendees, speakers and booth staff. The experience was an annual bonding ritual for everyone involved with the conference held at the closest thing search-geeks have to a universal holy land. Well choreographed, meticulously planned and lovingly executed, the Google Dance was a cultural experience the community is going to miss.

WebmasterRadio.FM is stepping in to throw the premier party event of the conference. SearchBash SJ09 is going to be the largest WebmasterRadio.FM produced SearchBash event yet.

“We intend to beat the Nov08 SearchBash experience in Vegas”, says WebmasterRadio.FM co-founder Daron Babin. “The SearchBash party thrown in Vegas during the Pubcon Conference was a spectacle, even by our standards. Without Google throwing a party in San Jose, we know our party needs to be bigger this year.”

The SearchBash party at Search Engine Strategies San Jose will be larger and wilder than ever. With no Google Dance this year, WebmasterRadio.FM is providing the only non-exclusive party of the conference.

More information about this year’s SearchBash will soon be posted on the WebmasterRadio.FM site, SearchEngineWatch.com and in the SEW Forums.

2009 has been an interesting and expansive year for WebmasterRadio.FM/.  As regular visitors and listeners have noticed, the website looks and acts differently today than it did last week.  We’ve made a number of changes in the past eight weeks.  As one can imagine, making changes in a network as large as WebmasterRadio.FM is a complex and difficult undertaking.

We are proud of WebmasterRadio.FM’s accomplishments and each of the shows running on the network. WebmasterRadio.FM is among the largest online radio and podcast networks in the world. With over 15,000 historic files in our archives and nearly 25 hours of fresh content added each week, WebmasterRadio.FM is the voice of the online advertising and B2B industries. This year we want to push further.

An Experiential SMX West Review

February 13, 2009 by Jim Hedger

Ever been in a busy room full of people and felt as if you and they were not really there? The sensation falls between an out of body experience and an unfortunate brain-full of high dosage pain relievers.

Standing with a small group of old-time search marketers on the trade-show floor at Search Marketing Expo (SMXWest) in Santa Clara at the beginning of this week, we all noted how the vibe of the show was sort of like that. Long used to feeling like ghosts in the machine, this month’s pilgrimage to the Valley made many of us feel like spiritless specters. It took a couple of days for the conference spirit to catch its first wind. Unfortunately, the conference was only three days long.

Sorry Patrick, No Searchbash in Chicago

If you missed Searchbash at Pubcon last month, you’re going to have to wait a little longer to get your Searchbash fix. WebmasterRadio.FM will NOT be throwing a party in Chicago. I’m sure there will be a few uncertain people saying they are positive they heard we’re having a party, but I can assure you that we’re not.

We ARE however doing some really fun stuff in Chicago that you don’t want to miss. One of them being Drunken Webmasters’ Roundtable.

So sorry Patrick, no Searchbash in Chicago.

WebmasterRadio.FM’s SearchBash Vegas 08 – Biggest SearchBash ever

“Moving the industry to the nirvana of Perfecto at the speed of fiber-light and always on-demand via podcast, we are WebmasterRadio.FM and we are everywhere!”

SearchBash, A WebmaserRadio.FM Event

We started to relax when we heard the opening track. After two stressful weeks of preparation, the largest industry event WebmasterRadio.FM had ever attempted was finally underway. Held in the vast Palms Hotel club RAIN, SearchBash Vegas 08 was designed to celebrate the unity of search marketing community by creating a communal experience attendees will never forget.

Four years ago, WebmasterRadio.FM was introduced at Pubcon. At SearchBash on Thursday, WebmasterRadio.FM proved it has grown to become a full fledged production company.

For those who didn’t make it to Pubcon or haven’t already heard or read about SearchBash, WebmasterRadio.FM presented a full scale Las Vegas floor show based on the Paul Oakenfold presentation Perfecto, re-scripted for an audience of webmasters. Consisting of 27 costumed performers dancing amongst, around and above a crowd of nearly 1000 search marketers, the show was a spectacle of choreographed chaos.

Imax sized screens above and around the stage showed branded visuals and the customized 4-D sponsors’ loop produced for each show WebmasterRadio.FM throws. Every performer was branded with the logos of our sponsors and many had hand-outs provided by our sponsors to give away. Making the sponsors happy is as important as giving the audience a life changing experience. The sponsors were happy and the audience affected. It was unreal, even by the standards set by previous WebmasterRadio.FM SearchBash events.

From the incredible performers to the management of RAIN, everything worked exactly as planned. It should have, given the shear amount of planning that went into the event. Two weeks worrying through 18 hours days paid off. We rewrote an already finely scripted Las Vegas performance to make it relevant to the community. After innumerable phone calls, emails and text messages, several different scripts (each of which required at least three rewrites), sponsorship messaging drops, sponsorship branding opportunities and coordinating it all with the event staff and choreographers, it actually worked!

Special thanks to our sponsors, Microsoft Live Search, PRWeb, Position Tech, Weave Met, Idea Launch, and Article Sender. Without the financial support of sponsors, such events simply could never happen.

The sponsors were pleased. With branding on virtually every possible surface Microsoft Live Search, PRWeb, Weave Met, Position Tech, Idea Launch and Article Sender were incredibly well represented. The performers were branded, the stage and screens carried branding messages and even the podium below the DJ booth on the main stage scrolled text messages touting each of the sponsors.

Similarly, without the efforts of our small army of engineers and technicians, most of whom were working from the WebmasterRadio.FM studios in Fort Lauderdale, the sponsors’ messages and the 4-D loop could not have been produced. While preparing for the largest event the network has ever thrown, many of our staff where crisscrossing the continent covering three other conferences. Over the past six weeks, WebmasterRadio.FM has been in New York twice for SMX East & ad:tech, and at Scary-SEO in Boca Raton. We’ve been working hard but nothing compares to the intensity of planning a mega-event in a very short time.

Organizing such an enormous event is a bizarre, often surreal experience. When Daron and Brandy told me about their plans for SearchBash Vegas, the rolling of my eyes must have been as obvious as my suddenly raised voice.

“WTF dudes, you want to do WHAT? Are you f’n crazy? You two have been spending like, way too much time in the sun or something,” I probably said. “There’s no f’ing way we can possibly pull this off. You guys are truly messed.”

Collectively, we pulled off far more than we expected. Now that it’s over, a few more “f” words might be in order, starting with “fantastic” and moving towards “fun”. I’ve spent over a decade in the search marketing industry. In that time, I’ve worked for small and major corporations and two unique search marketing shops. I have never seen a staff as inspired to excellence as that of WebmasterRadio.FM. They work us harder than most but that hard work produces an excellent product. SearchBash was freakin’ fantastic.
