WebmasterRadio.FM Search Engine Strategies Chicago 2009 Coverage

WebmasterRadio.FM provided full coverage of the recent Search Engine Strategies Chicago 2009 conference with nearly three dozen interviews, 3 live keynote broadcasts and several on-the-floor conversations with some of the brightest minds in search marketing.
This was perhaps the fullest SES Chicago in recent memory. It was also the end of a tradition as the last SES Chicago show scheduled for early December. Next year, the gorgeous Christmas decorations in the lobby of the Chicago Hilton will be replaced with a Halloween or Thanksgiving display. SES Chicago 2010 takes place in what is expected to be a much milder mid-October.
The spirit of SES Chicago 2009 was one of family, familiarity and forward momentum. Many of our interviews paint a picture of economic stability and growth. The online marketing sector appears to have weathered the recession relatively well, innovating its way through an increasing diversity of communication channels. The upswing in ad-spend is real and sustained as is the uptick in confidence felt in and around digital marketing. The Spirit of Christmas Future may well be friendly to the techno-minded among us.

Five days from today several thousand search professionals ranging from SEOs to PPC experts to search engine developers will descend on the San Jose Convention Center for the largest annual search related event in the world, Search Engine Strategies San Jose. Running five days from August 10 – 14, SES San Jose is a full week of intense skills sharing, networking, evening events and eventually, physical and mental exhaustion. SES veterans eagerly await this show.
WebmasterRadio.FM will be bringing our audience full coverage of SES San Jose. We will be live-casting each keynote address, interviewing a few dozen speakers and industry luminaries, covering any and all breaking news that occurs or is announced at the event, and throwing one of our largest SearchBash parties.
As usual, we are inviting everyone attending SES San Jose to drop by our booth to meet some of our show hosts and radio personalities. You’ll be able to find WebmasterRadio.FM’s booth in the right-hand side corner of the trade-show floor, near the area set aside for lunch. Our booth number is #703, our staff is friendly and our sofas are going to be filled with live interview action virtually from start to finish.
As I wrote earlier, if you are (for whatever reason) unable to get up in time for the keynote speeches, tune in to WebmasterRadio.FM while waking. We’re live-casting all keynotes. Also, stay tuned as we will be breaking into our live-stream for special announcements, breaking news and general fun from the trade-show floor.
Tuesday night, WebmasterRadio.FM is throwing the largest party of the event, SearchBash at Pearl Nightclub (2 blocks away from the Convention Center at 8 S. First St, San Jose, CA. 95113). Because Google is NOT hosting a Google Dance this year, we expect a very heavy turnout and will not be able to allow anyone past the door who has not first RSVP’ed. Please let us know you’re coming by following THIS LINK to RSVP for SearchBash.
We are all looking forward to the coming week and hope to see you at Search Engine Strategies San Jose. Stay tuned to the network friends, we have some amazing content coming up…

“It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me,
You’re quoting the wrong song…” (all apologies to Sean MacGowan, Jem Finer and Pogues fans everywhere)
It wasn’t Christmas Eve though the streets of Chicago were cold enough to pass for late December. We were not in the drunk tank though listeners might have thought so had they tuned in to the Drunken Webmasters’ RoundTable broadcast live last Tuesday night. There was an old man speaking to me but that might have been any number of characters ranging from Daron Babin to Todd Friesen to Dave Naylor to Doug Heil. At some points in the evening it was hard to tell.
WebmasterRadio.FM rocked its way through the final major digital marketing conference of the year last week in our virtually complete coverage of all major events at Search Engine Strategies Chicago 2008. As the official radio and podcast network of the Search Engine Strategies Conference series, there’s a lot expected of us. We carried every keynote speech, all the Orion panel sessions, a number of individual sessions and recorded over twenty interviews with industry thought-leaders throughout three days of intensely hard work. Our goal at conferences is to act as ears for the tens of thousands of people in our industry who can’t attend themselves.
Here are some of the highlights from Search Engine Strategies Chicago 2008:
- Professor Lawrence Lessig Keynote: Remix, Making Art and Commerce Thrive in the Hybrid Economy
- Orion Panel: The State of Integration of Search
- Author Bill Tancer Keynote: We Are What We Click
- Orion Panel: The Battle of the Browsers
- Chris Winfield Interview – Igniting Viral Campaigns
- Cody Hunter Interview – Paid Search Marketing for Small Business
- The Drunken Webmasters’ RoundTable (3hours of fun and enlightenment, WebmasterRadio.FM style)
- Josh James Keynote: Avoiding Anticipointment
- John Mellor Interview – Investing in Analytics
- Tessa Fraser Interview – Rethinking Optimization
As I said, we worked hard last week. We compiled some great conversations, attended every social event and created a lot of fun of our own. There are more files where those came from waiting to be edited and archived in the Search Engine Strategies Conference channel at WebmasterRadio.FM.
Now we get to take some much needed rest time. We’re still broadcasting, podcasting and gathering great information but for the next few weeks we get to do it from our homebase in Fort Lauderdale. The crew doesn’t have to travel until the New Year and our first conference of next year is the Social Networking Conference just down the street in Miami in late January.
